Nothing can stop the flow

Are you constipated or passing it through?

As we go through life, we either get stuck or we are in flow. Athletes especially crave the feeling of being in the ZONE – where things seem effortless.

As a businessman, I now see that ‘cash flow’ is a better indicator of the health of a business than its ‘value’.

Rivers flow. We try to harvest the energy of the river by building dams to block its flow. But this process takes an enormous amount of resources to do and it kills a lot of land. And every single dam that has been built still passes water downstream. The river just keeps flowing.

Recently, Sydney has been hit by storms and I have been called to investigate leaks caused by overflowing gutters. Many homeowners think that having bigger gutters to hold the water is the answer. I have to remind them that the true solution is to let the water go – by having more downpipes…

Making money is the prime objective of life in this modern world. We then falsely think that keeping as much of that money as possible is the end game.

Mark Zukerberg has his facebook business valued in the billions – But the latest news on Mark is that he is in a hurry to spend it. The SMH reports that “…he is determined to spend billions of dollars over the next decade on ventures that might never generate substantial profits.”

There are people who have discovered that the true value of money is in having fun making it – but also in figuring out how to have fun spending it. They know that passing it on allows more of it to flow in. After all, there are so many examples in nature showing that life is all about “letting go”.

The other one of life’s objective is marriage – and getting stuck with each other for a lifetime. It is “…for better or worse – til death do us part.” While it may be a sensitive subject to explore why marriage is an ‘unnatural’ social custom, it is another example of hanging on – only to get stuck…

…Enough of this subject, let’s keep moving on before we get stuck…
