You are free once you can back yourself.

by

Life is full of self-doubt. We spend so much energy fighting our sense of insecurity that we have none left to savour the essence of life.

Something weird happens when we start to back ourselves. There is no looking back and the forward motion is exhilarating. When Cadel attacked in the first mountain stage, it was a show of self-confidence. It was only when his pace started to falter that he had doubts about his attacking ability. His failure to back himself meant an agonising tailing off to the back of the high paced attack group, and eventually being spat out the back.

Why don’t we back ourselves to the hilt when it the pay-off is so great?

Whose desire is it?

The main reason is that we suffer more failures than successes in our lives. So accustomed are we to failure that we have lost the guts to back ourselves.

However, all it takes is one tiny twist to how we can continuously back ourselves to the hilt and this freedom is yours forever. All our lives, we have been taught to have goals and to back ourselves to achieve them. This always never works. We are all trying to achieve THE result (usually the best that we can think of). Just like we all would like to win our club race this Sunday. Obviously, not everyone can win – so the bunch will be inundated with losers.

The one sure thing in life is that individually, we will never achieve THE result that we wish for. So, how can we back ourselves at all?

The tiny twist is in realising that we will all achieve A result. And that result is all we are meant to achieve. If this is the case, then we can always back ourselves to get a result.

It may not be THE result that we may be hoping for – but it will be A result. So, every race on Sunday, I am backing myself to achieving a result. And it is ALWAYS a result that fits in with where my life is at.

This is the case with all the other ‘important’ issues in life like money and relationships. You can safely back yourself fully to get A result every time. Just don’t get too attached to THE result.
