What are you passionate about in your Life?

Some people are passionate about their work. Others are very sports minded – some like to watch and others like to play. There are hobbies that can get people all worked up about. There is virtually an endless list to choose from.

Life is a game.

… And Cycle racing is a game that I get a great deal of enjoyment out of. So, it should come as no surprise that bicycle racing will be one of the things that will be prominent in my game of life.
This page and a lot of my blogs will be cycle racing centric. This page is dedicated to my cycling game and it will be loaded by pictures and stories to support this Game.

To start off…

5 frequently asked Questions about Jack Yuen’s involvement in Masters Cycle racing:

1) Question: How much training do you do?
Answer: Approximately 150 kilometres per week. This will be two early morning sessions with the guys from the LACC at Homebush. I go out with the quickest guys and just hang on. Then I do a 3 hr ride on Saturday mornings with a friend and we do some hill work. I do not do any work on the home trainer or subscribe to any specific training program. Very simple.

2) Question: How much racing do you do?
Answer: Most of my racing is at club level. I am a member of the Waratah Masters Cycling Club in Sydney and we organise the best masters racing in the state. Occasionally, I race outside the club. I like the B2B (Blaney to Bathurst), and I usually race the NSW Masters state championships and the sometimes the national Masters championships.
I race for enjoyment.
… And I get a great deal of joy from our club racing and going away for championships is also fun.

3) Question: How hard do you do race?
Answer: I race as hard as I can. That is why I continue racing at the ‘A’ grade level at our club.
Sometimes, I feel wonderful just to finish the race. Often, I am in breaks and on the attack. I just love picking the right wheel to follow just before the attack.
I race against the toughest competition because I can – and it is because I have the most fun that way.
I do not often win a race at the finish line – but every race I enter, I am winning.

4) Question: How old are you?
Answer: I was born in 1957. So, at the time of writing, I am almost 58 years old. This is my fourth year in Masters category 6.

5) Question: How much longer will you race the bicycle?
Answer: I have no wish to predict the future. Therefore I do not have any idea what will stop me from racing my bicycle.
I have had accidents on the bicycle – and also broken quite a few bikes. But that has not stopped me yet.
Other things have happened in my life – and none of them has stopped me from racing.
But I also know that this game of life has an end. So, one day I will stop. Until then, I will keep enjoying racing as a masters cyclist.
