You got to have character

Character is the essence of life

You got to have character

Any interesting story will have characters. These are people with attitude. They create the spice that makes the story vibrant.

The central players have more developed characteristics than the support cast. Character development is the ‘must have’ for any story teller to be able to breathe life into their tales.

Our lives are just stories, and we are the authors. We write the lines of code that produce the graphics that we experience every day. Accomplished writers have a good sense of the development to their stories without ‘losing the plot’. But these are quite rare. Most story tellers just muddle up.

Most of us are fairly ordinary story tellers and we often lose the plot. That is why we always wonder what is happening in our lives. We play parts that are out of character and wonder why it feels yuck. Every now and then we get into character and have fun, But then someone points to some fault in our character and we get side tracked again.

Characters have flaws – just like oranges have juice. The flaws make the character and this allows the story to get interesting.

Life is all about mastering your own character development – flaws and all. We love other people to be characters with attitude – people who just behave who they are. Yet we are scared to stand out in a crowd ourselves. If you can see through this dis-connect, then you can start loving your own character and have fun developing it.
